Rock at the Castle - Rock at the Castle

Posted in Press Release

Hertford Town Council is delighted to announce that this year’s Rock at the Castle will take place on Sunday 6th August from 12.30 pm – 7 pm. The free music festival will be held in the grounds of Hertford Castle and has seen thousands of visitors return year after year.

Although Rock at the Castle is a free event to attend, this year’s selected charity, The Hertford Pantry Charity will be fundraising at the gates. The charity was selected from many applications by Hertford Town Councillors on Monday 19th June 2023.

The Hertford Pantry Charity have said:

“We are delighted to be chosen as the official Charity Beneficiary for Rock at the Castle 2023. This recognition has sparked great excitement among our dedicated volunteers, as it allows us to extend our support to even more families in need.

The Hertford Pantry is a beacon of hope in these uncertain times, addressing the pressing issues of food waste and food poverty in our local community.

Our mission is clear: rescuing perfectly good food from going to waste and ensuring it reaches those who need it the most.

Our passionate team of volunteers works tirelessly with various organisations to deliver essential supplies to individuals facing challenging circumstances. From collecting surplus food to distributing it free of charge, we are committed to supporting the community without judgment, creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.

As a charity, every donation made to The Hertford Pantry contributes directly to the community. We carefully manage our finances, no wages or salaries are paid, and resources are maximized for our mission. Funds primarily go towards purchasing essential supplies like food, sanitary items, baby products, and toiletries.

Thanks to the generosity of Network Homes, we have access to community premises where we operate on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at the Community Hub in Fleming Crescent.

We invite volunteers from all walks of life to actively participate in this transformative initiative. Together, we strive to create a sustainable future, reduce food waste, and build a supportive community where no one is left behind.

The Hertford Pantry is a shining example of grassroots efforts leading to positive change. Our dedication to combating food waste and supporting local individuals serves as an inspiration to communities everywhere.

Why not join forces with us, together we can make a significant impact and create a better, more compassionate world for all. We’ll have a stand at Rock in the Castle where you can come and chat to see what we do. As well as collecting monetary donations we are also happy to receive food donations. These must be ambient food (i.e., not fresh) such as tins, pasta, rice, tea, coffee etc.”

Hertford Town Council’s Chairman of Development and Leisure, Cllr Ann Woodward, said:

‘I am really delighted that Hertford Pantry has been chosen as the charity for this year’s Rock at the Castle event. At a time when many people are struggling due to the rising cost of living, Hertford Pantry lends a helping hand as well as tackling the growing problem of food waste. I encourage people visiting Rock at the Castle to give generously to this very deserving local charity’

The lineup for Rock at the Castle 2023 will be announced in end of July.

Hertford Town Council is grateful to our sponsors this year, McMullen’s Brewery, and Substance Global.

This event is part of Hertford Town Council’s long tradition of providing events in the Castle Grounds. The full programme can be found at https://www.hertford.gov.uk/events-listings/.
