On Thursday 6th May residents cast their vote on whether they wished for East Herts District Council to adopt the Bengeo Neighbourhood Area Plan and the Sele Neighbourhood Area Plan. The results of the referenda were announced on Monday with an overwhelming ‘yes’ to the adoption of both plans, with over 90% of votes cast.
The adoption of the plans will be used to help decide planning applications in the Plan Area over the 12 years up to 2033.
The Chairman of the Development and Leisure Committee, Cllr Jane Sartin, said: "These results are a significant moment for Sele and Bengeo, and a testament to the work undertaken by many dedicated people in both communities. Hertford Town Council will continue to offer its support for the implementation of these plans’’.
Adam Leaf, Chair of the Sele Neighbourhood Plan Community Steering Group, said: "I am really pleased to see the resounding yes vote to adopt this important plan. I look forward to continuing to work with residents of Sele ward to achieve the positive aspirations of the plan”.
John Howson, Chair of the Bengeo Neighbourhood Area Plan Community Steering Group, said: “I am delighted that the Bengeo plan has attracted this amazingly strong endorsement. It is wonderful how the Bengeo community came together and produced a document of which we can all be proud. It is a culmination of a number of years work. I am grateful for the support of Hertford Town Council that helped the development of the plan and for the incredibly hard work of one or two individuals in pulling it all together”.
