The Town Council is pleased to announce that Councillor Vicky Smith was elected as the new Mayor of Hertford for the Civic Year 2023/24 at the Annual Meeting of the Council, held at County Hall on Thursday 18th May 2023.
Cllr Vicky Smith has been a resident of Hertford for 18 years and was elected to the Town Council in 2021. Her consort will be her husband, Simon Smith.
Cllr Vicky Smith’s chosen charities for the year are Mudlarks and Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust.
Mudlarks are based at the Council’s Ware Road allotments. They work with adults with learning disabilities and mental health issues providing employment and training and supporting them to take an active role within our community. Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust work tirelessly to protect green spaces, and by extension, the huge range of biodiversity contained within them.
Town and District Councillor, Cllr Alex Daar was elected Deputy Mayor for 2023/24.
Cllr Vicky Smith said: "I am absolutely delighted and honored to be taking on the role as Mayor of Hertford. I’ve lived here now for 18 years, brought up my children here and worked in the town. I know what a special place Hertford is, and I am looking forward to supporting the town and its residents over the coming year. As a former teacher I am particularly excited to have the opportunity to work with children and young people on activities which support their wellbeing."
