As part of the National Heritage Open Days, observed country-wide to celebrate local history, Hertford Town Council has organised a free medieval heritage event at Hertford Castle on Sunday 10th September from 12 noon – 4 pm.

There will be a variety of displays, demonstrations, stalls, and performances on the Castle Lawn. A central arena will provide free entertainment including a Falconry display, Tales from the Hart storytelling and re-enactments.

Surrounding the performance arena will be an array of stalls including historical craft activities, archery demonstrations, fire breathing, and workshops, medieval knight encampment, and refreshments.

In addition to the lawn activities, Hertford Castle will be open (between midday and 4 pm) to the public free of charge, and visitors are invited to explore the Castle and its themed Castle basement rooms.

Cllr Ann Woodward, Chair of the Town Council’s Development and Leisure Committee, said: “What a fantastic opportunity to explore the history of Hertford Castle. Do come and join us for this wonderful free event with plenty of exciting activities on offer for the whole family.”
