On 12th October, the Mayor of Hertford, Councillor Rachel Carter hosted a welcome reception for visiting guests from Hertford’s twin town, Wildeshausen, in Germany, and their hosts, at Hertford Castle.
It was a wonderful morning, celebrating the longstanding friendship between the two towns, with guests enjoying refreshments and a tour guided by volunteers from the Friends of Hertford Castle.
Gifts were exchanged between the Mayor of Hertford and her counterpart, the Mayor of Wildeshausen Jens Kuraschinski, with further gifts given to guests from Wildeshausen as a memento of their visit.
The Mayor of Hertford, Councillor Rachel Carter, commented: “Meeting our friends from Wildeshausen has been one of the highlights of my Mayoral year and has been a great opportunity to strengthen the ties between our twin towns”.
Following their reception at Hertford Castle, the Friends of Wildeshausen took the opportunity to explore more of Hertford with a walking quiz kindly arranged by Trish Goldsmith, Chair of the Friends of Wildeshausen and later enjoyed a meal together which was also attended by the Mayor of Hertford.
In 1995, Hertford became officially twinned with the town of Wildeshausen in the Oldenburg district of Lower Saxony, North Germany. 'The Friends of Wildeshausen' was then established to foster understanding between communities by encouraging friendships and organising exchanges and activities with the people of Wildeshausen.
