The Mayor of Hertford Community Awards 2025

The Mayor of Hertford wants to recognise Hertford’s Community Heroes, nominated by you. 

There will be awards for individuals and/or organisations in the following categories: 

1. The Mayor’s Community Award

Recognising people or groups who: 

  • Bring Hertford together via community events, sports activities, youth clubs, etc.
  • Volunteer in any capacity.
  • Enhance the look or feel of the town in a positive way

2. The Mayor’s Environmental Award

Recognising people or groups who:

  • Promote or deliver local environmentally sustainable schemes such as litter picking, hedge laying, river cleaning, planting, recycling, re-using, building bug hotels etc.
  • Protect and enhance the natural environment.
  • Increase Biodiversity and/or support local nature and wildlife.

3. The Mayor's 'Spirit of Hertford' Award

Recognising an individual who:

  • Fosters the 'Spirit of Hertford' by celebrating the cultural and unique historical heritage of our County town through the arts, culture, music or sport.

Short listed nominees will be invited to attend the Annual Town Meeting at Hertford Castle on Thursday 20th March where the winners will be announced.

2024 Mayor of Hertford Community Awards Winners

On Thursday 21st March the Winners of the Hertford Heroes Community Awards were celebrated and presented with a Certificate of Appreciation. Those who were nominated will also receive a letter of recognition for their contribution to Hertford. 

The Mayor's Eco Award: 

Organisation: 

Hertford Cycle Hub - for their work as Herts3Cycle repairing unwanted bicycles and donating them to individuals in need. 

Individuals: 

Basil Johns: recognised for his incredible work making swift (& other bird) boxes over the past two years. 

Clive Fleming: Important work with Hertford Swift Groups, raising awareness and encouraging people to do what they can. 

The Mayor's Community Award: 

Organisation: 

The Hertford Pantry: Together the team behind The Hertford Pantry give up their free time to help others and provide for families. They spread kindness, friendship and enlightenment within the community. 

Individual: 

Dan Griffiths: Established the I Love Hertford platform to spread positivity and support throughout Hertford. His presence is recognisable across the town.
