Hertford Castle "Within these Walls" Evening Tours
Between May and August, outdoor guided tours will be taking place to showcase the Castle's amazing history over the years from William the Conqueror to the present day.
The tours will be led by the Friends of Hertford Castle, an invaluable group of volunteers who help conduct Castle Tours and steward at Castle Open Days, and have a wealth of historical knowledge. This 1 hour guided tour of the Hertford Castle grounds will provide insight into the amazing history that lies "Within these Walls'.
Tours will take place 6.30pm - 7.30pm on the following dates:
Wednesday 14th May
Wednesday 18th June
Wednesday 9th July
Wednesday 13th August
Tickets are £5 per person with proceeds going to the Mayor of Hertford Charity Appeal Fund.

The event is ticketed. £5 per person with all proceeds going to the Mayor of Hertford’s Charity Appeal Fund.
The Castle grounds can be accessed by foot at any of the following pedestrian gates: Castle Street, St Andrew Street Car Park, Main Castle Gate off The Wash or through the Moat Garden on Castle Street.
Please arrive 5 minutes before the tour start time and assemble by the pedestrian gate at The Wash, near Weatherspoons and BEAM.
Parking
Unfortunately, there is no public parking at Hertford Castle (including disabled) but there are a number of public car parks close to the Castle. Please click here for more information and map.
Amenities
The Castle will be closed during this event.
The nearest public toilets are situated on The Wash by the Six Templars public house, managed directly by Wetherspoons.

Hertford Town Council declared a Climate Emergency in July 2023 and has committed to taking action to protect human health and our natural world to the maximum extent its powers allow. The two Hertford railway stations, Hertford North and Hertford East, are a short walk from the Castle, and bus services are available to the Wash and Hertford bus station.
