HArts Fest
The annual Hertford Arts Festival, “HArts Fest” runs from Saturday 8th April – Saturday 15th April and promotes local art and cultural events, activities and exhibitions within Hertford and the local area. This includes the Courtyard Arts and Hertford Art Society Open Exhibitions, as well as the ‘Children’s Art Trail’, hosted in partnership with local primary schools and Manic Ceramics in the Castle grounds.
PLUS! New for 2023 are the following events:
- Art and culture inspired workshops, which will be hosted for FREE* in the beautiful Hertford Castle grounds in partnership with local businesses and groups. From dance and drama to photography, craft and mindfulness, we have a range of activities suitable for both adults and children. *Some charges may apply. To help us gauge interest and to inform the businesses hosting the workshops of expected numbers, sign up is recommended. - 'We are Hertford' Community Art Project - come and get involved to help create the centrepiece for HArts Fest 2023. Collect a colourful stag from participating businesses: Hertford Town and Tourist Information Centre, Mudlarks, Hertford Library or Hertford Museum, and bring it to the Hertford Castle grounds to place on the mural board. Sign your name or leave a fingerprint to forever be part of the 2023 community art project.
- Children's Art Project - Help design the bear for the 2023 Teddy Bears' Picnic poster! Entries will be judged by the Mayor of Hertford and the winning bear will be used on the official event poster plus a £30 voucher to be won. You can use the template provided or design your own. Entry information
The event is FREE of charge to attend, you are however welcome to donate to the Mayor of Hertford’s Charity Appeal Fund.
The Castle grounds can be accessed by foot at any of the following pedestrian gates: Castle Street, St Andrew Street Car Park, Main Castle Gate off The Wash or through the Moat Garden on Castle Street.
Parking
Unfortunately, there is no public parking at Hertford Castle (including disabled) but there are a number of car parks close to the Castle which are free to use on Sundays. Please click here to download a map of the local car parks.
Amenities
Toilets are located to the side of the main lawn on the footpath by the Ashley Webb Shelter.
Disabled toilets & baby changing facilities are available inside the castle, please speak to a volunteer on the door for access.
First aid is located on the riverbank by the Ashley Webb shelter.
