Unfortunately due to the risk of lightning today, EcoFest has been cancelled at Hertford Castle.
We are making this decision as a safety precaution for stall holders, the public, and staff working the event today.

Hertford Eco Fest is a new event to raise awareness amongst as many people as possible of the small changes we can all make to reduce our carbon footprint and save money.
It will be held at Hertford Castle on Sunday 22nd September, as part of a two-week programme of Hertford town wide sustainability events.
On the 22nd at the Castle, visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of fun activities including:
- Story time with Hertford Library
- Garden games
- Junk modelling
- Kayaking
- Live music and fashion shows
- Food and drink and craft stalls
- Information and education around money saving ideas and carbon reduction.
Visitors are invited to visit Highway Cycles on the Island Lawn, where they will have an electric bike display as well as onsite bike repair*, and the Repair Stall on the Main Lawn, who will be offering repair diagnosis on anything other than white goods e.g. washing machines, microwaves or laptops and other computing devices.*
*Please note that any repairs will be done on a first come first served basis and only a limited number of items will be able to be fixed on the day.
We are pleased to announce that City to Sea will be attending Eco Fest. Please visit their stall on the main lawn to find out more about the Refill campaign and what Hertford Town Council and Ware Town Council are doing together to reduce plastic in our town.
Within the Castle, visitors can find organisations Climate Café and With Integrity. Climate Café are a community led network hub designed to connect people to talk and act on climate change. They will located in the Salisbury Room available to talk about what climate change means to you. In the Mayor's Parlour, join Pauline for insights and revelations about how you can contribute positive emissions of a different kind to the environment.

Entry information
The event is FREE of charge to attend, you are however welcome to donate to the Mayor of Hertford’s Charity Appeal Fund, which this year is supporting Hertford and District Guides & Citizens Advice East Herts.
The Castle grounds can be accessed by foot at any of the following pedestrian gates: Castle Street, St Andrew Street Car Park, Main Castle Gate off The Wash or through the Moat Garden on Castle Street.
Travelling to the Event
Hertford Town Council declared a Climate Emergency in July 2023 and has committed to taking action to protect human health and our natural world to the maximum extent its powers allow. We therefore encourage people to come to our events by public or active transport. The two Hertford railway stations, Hertford North and Hertford East, are a short walk from the Castle, and bus services are available to the Wash and Hertford bus station. Please visit National Rail for live train times and Intalink for bus routes.
Parking
There is no parking at Hertford Castle (including disabled) but there are a number of car parks close to the Castle. Please click here to download a map of the local car parks.
Amenities
Toilets are located to the side of the main lawn on the footpath by the Ashley Webb Shelter.
Disabled toilets & baby changing facilities are available inside the castle, please speak to a volunteer on the door for access.
First aid will be provided by St John's Ambulance and will be located by the Ashley Webb shelter.
Dogs are welcome, however they must be kept on a lead at all times and we kindly ask that dog waste is picked up and put in the bins provided.
The nearest Changing Places toilet is located in the foyer area of BEAM, The Wash. There is step free access from the main entrance to the Changing Places. Please be advised that the Changing Places does not have a permanent attendant. For further information please get in tough HERE.
